Home Instructions Before Oral Surgery

Please follow these detailed instructions to ensure a seamless preparation for your upcoming oral surgery with IV sedation:

  • No food or drink (including water) for 6 hours before the appointment. 
  • No smoking at least 12 hours prior to surgery, and ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible. 
  • A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, stay during the procedure, and drive them home. Car service is not allowed. 
  • Patients should not drive a vehicle or operate machinery for 24 hours after anesthesia. 
  • Wear loose-fitting clothing with sleeves that can be rolled up past the elbow and low-heeled shoes – no flip-flops. 
  • Avoid wearing lipstick, excessive makeup, or nail polish. 
  • If you have an illness like a cold, sore throat, stomach, or bowel upset, reschedule your appointment. 
  • Consult Dr. Fang or Dr. Shon regarding any routine oral medications prior to the surgical date.
